At the age of four our daughter, Hanna Catherine Evans, was diagnosed with Stage IV Wilms’ Tumor, a form of childhood cancer. Over the course of nearly two years, Hanna went through four major surgeries, countless chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and a stem cell transplant. Through all of these horrible experiences it was amazing to watch how she spent very little time worrying about herself, her time was spent helping other children and caring about her friends going through similar experiences. Hanna decided after her initial diagnosis in 2004 to collect toys and money for Christmas Eve dinner for the children in the hospital during the Christmas holiday. This started Hanna’s Day of Hope. It has now been over five years since our family lost our precious child, Hanna passed away June 16, 2006 at the tender age of 6. It is our commitment to her to continue to help other children fighting this battle.
In the last five years Hanna’s Day of Hope has donated a total of over $75,000.00 to the Children’s Hospital Foundation, the Make-a-Wish Foundation, and CureSearch. This money has stayed in the Louisville Community where it has helped local children. Last year Hanna's Day of Hope made a 1 million dollar commitment to fund the Bone Marrow and Stem Cell Transplant Program at Kosair Children's Hospital. The program was named in honor of Hanna and will be the focus of future donations made by Hanna's Day of Hope.
